For those not already using it, here is how Formal Statement Analysis is used in an investigation:
For an active investigation, the witness/suspect’s statement is analyzed and the report will tell you, “Apply pressure [here].”
When you meet with the suspect, press them at the identified point in the statement -- the point which shows deception and sensitivity.
They will be certain you 'know something' more about the event than you are revealing. This is your best and shortest path to the truth.
Alternatively, if there is no deception indicated in the statement, it is reported as such.
This is applicable to:
stalled cases,
911 dispatch calls,
unclear as to witness/accessory statement,
statement by parent of a missing child,
he said/she said allegations,
embezzlement,
anonymous threats, etc.
